Uni-Solar framed panels are based on amorphous silicon technology. The thin film of solar cells is covered with a layer of tough, light-transmitting polymer, rather than the fragile glass that is used in many solar panels. This makes them particularly resistant to vandalism or accidental damage.
'Thin film' solar panels of this type require slightly more surface area for a given power output than crystalline panels, but they represent very good value, and are also more efficient at low light levels than crystalline panels. In fact, over the course of a year, because of the increased efficiency during the winter months you should get as much power from an amorphous panel rated at 64W, as you would from a conventional panel rated at 80W.
