We sell a range of solar controllers from Morningstar. These are reliable, well-proven units. The units work on pulse width modulation (PWM) - a type of charging regime that rapidly pulses the charge from the solar panels to maintain the battery voltage at a constant level. This method of charging allows maximum charge into the batteries, but prevents overcharging.
There are cheaper solar controllers on the market, which work using a simple 'on-off' charging regime: They switch off the supply from the panels when the voltage reaches a set point, and reconnect it when the voltage drops below another threshold. However, these controller's won't maintain the charge in your batteries as well as a pulse width modulated controller. As the price difference between the two types is minimal, we believe it is better to install a PWM controller than to save a few pounds on the price of the controller.
